“Ballet is so hard. It’s hard on your body, and it’s hard on your mind… we’re constantly pushing ourselves.”
For its 30th Anniversary, MCB asked members from every rank of the company to tell their stories; what inspired them to devote their lives to dance.

Last month, our dancers wrapped up another stop on our list of 2014-15 tours. Miami City Ballet opened New York City Center’s internationally acclaimed Fall for Dance festival performing George Balanchine’s Allegro Brillante on September 30. The festival, now in its 12th year, featured twenty works over five programs, and ran through Oct. 11.
The New York Times called this year’s festival, “one of the most memorable in recent Fall for Dance history.” The article also praised Miami City Ballet, specifically mentioning standout performances by principals Patricia Delgado and Renan Cerdeiro.
Internationally acclaimed artist and photographer Jordan Matter’s latest collection of original photography features MCB Dancers on the sands, streets and skylines of Miami.
The exhibition will be open to the public during Art Basel, December 3-19, 2015 at the Miami City Ballet studios.
Last month, MCB was excited to hit the road for the first of several national tour engagements taking place this season. The Company performed at three events during the 9th annual Chicago Dancing Festival, beginning with George Balanchine’s Allegro Brillante on Aug. 27 at the Harris Theater for Music and Dance. The Company also performed Twyla Tharp’s Sweet Fields on August 29 at the Jay Pritzker Pavillion in Millennium Park.
With original sets and costumes by Michele Oka Doner, MCB’s reimagining of A Midsummer Night’s Dream takes its inspiration and palette from South Florida’s surrounding waterways. Daughter of Miami Beach’s former mayor, Oka Doner’s work is fueled by the natural world around her and spans throughout the Miami community – even lining the floors of Miami International Airport.
After enjoying a much-needed 6-week summer break, our dancers have returned to the studios to continue rehearsals for our 2015-16 season. Kicking off October 23 at the Arsht Center in Miami, our highly anticipated 30th Anniversary Season promises to be among the most exciting yet, with four Company Premieres, including a reimagining of George Balanchine’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
