In its 10th year, Miami City Ballet’s landmark “Ballet Bus” is a dance training scholarship program supporting 40 students and families within Miami-Dade County Public schools for up to 10 years.

This merit and need based dance training scholarship eliminates the financial and transportation obstacles often associated with professional training for students and families interested in pursuing a career in the arts.  From September to June of each academic calendar year, Ballet Bus, in partnership with Brickell Kidz Bus, transports 40 students from twelve (12) Miami-Dade County Public Schools to Miami City Ballet- Miami Beach studios, Monday thru Friday.

Beginning at age 7, students from communities throughout Miami-Dade County audition through our Explore Dance in school programs or are invited to attend an open audition at Miami City Ballet School. Students, who are invited to join Ballet Bus, receive transportation after school with door to door service from their Miami-Dade County Public School to Miami City Ballet School- Miami Beach studios, full dance attire, healthy snacks, social skill building, homework support, emotional support, tickets to MCB season programs (including George Balanchine's The Nutcracker) and world-class training with the faculty at Miami City Ballet School for the full academic year in a safe and caring environment. Upper-level students also receive mentorship and guidance from professionals within the arts community.

The Miami City Ballet- Ballet Bus program changes lives and gives opportunities to families who may otherwise never have the means to access this professional level of ballet training.

Video: Ballet Bus

'Ballet Bus' is a short documentary/collaboration between Isaac Mead-Long and the Miami City Ballet. The documentary takes you into the lives of two young boys, Kimani and Kelvin, who were selected to be a part of the Miami City Ballet Ballet Bus Program.

This video would not have been possible without our two amazing executive producers, Christina Lane and Terry Schechter.
