Dance Education

Explore Dance

Explore Dance brings Miami City Ballet Teaching Artists into local classrooms to motivate and inspire children through dance. Each of the teaching artists instructs utilizing the MCB curriculum as well as exposes students to a variety of dance forms including Contemporary, Hip-Hop, and Latin and African Dances.

The goal of Explore Dance residencies is to bring high standard dance education that stimulates student creativity and builds technical and performance skill. The residencies are conducted during the school day and/or afterschool programming. To ensure students have an authentic and safe dance experience, each student receives ballet shoes and performance attire.

In Title I Miami-Dade County Public Schools, Explore Dance is provided at no cost. All other schools and community programs may inquire about the cost of a residency. Most significantly, Explore Dance provides an opportunity for all children to be considered for further training at the Miami City Ballet School.

STEAM+

In partnership with City of Miami Beach and the Bass Museum, Miami City Ballet teaching artists use dance to engage students in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) learning. We seek to inspire the next generation of innovators, artists, and leaders through experiential-based learning.

Master Classes

Hosted across South Florida, MCB’s Community Engagement Master Classes are conducted in schools and conservatories with existing dance programs in Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach Counties. The classes provide access for dance students to Miami City Ballet School’s faculty and curriculum as well as consideration for MCB training programs.

Palm Beach Summer Dance Camp

Hosted at the A.W. Dreyfoos School of the Arts, Palm Beach Summer Dance Camp offers a rigorous dance training program for youth aged 7-15 in underserved communities in the Palm Beaches.

Launched in 2017, the camp is taught by renowned faculty from Miami City Ballet and the artistic community. Today, the camp serves to up to 60 children each summer. Children are provided with lunch and all necessary dancewear and supplies. The camp exposes children to a variety of dance styles to include Ballet, Jazz, Hip-Hop, Composition, Repertory, and Choreography. We also encourage the children to engage with and discuss cultural and social topics relevant to them in the community building class.

At the end of camp, the children participate in a Culminating event to display what they have learned. To continue learning, families receive complimentary tickets to Miami City Ballet performances in West Palm Beach as well as potential connections to local training.
