Justin Peck crea ‘Heatscape’ para Miami City Ballet

La pieza de resistencia de esta temporada del Miami City Ballet se presenta este fin de semana en el Ziff Ballet Opera House del Adrienne Arsht Center. Se titula Heatscape, y es la creación del coreógrafo más en boga del momento en Estados Unidos, Justin Peck. Siendo tan joven –de 27 años– ya ha producido varias piezas para el New York City Ballet y un pas de deuxpara el New World Symphony Orchestra en 2013, con bailarines del MCB, Chutes and Ladders.

Pero ahora se trata de una producción en toda regla, con la participación de toda la compañía, y con un título que el propio coreógrafo anota es una reminiscencia del título de la obra de Merce Cuningham, Summerspace, solo que Miami es más caliente.

MCB Dancers Take Italy

It’s been a couple of weeks since our dancers wrapped up rehearsals with choreographer Justin Peck. Since then, they’ve all been enjoying some additional time off this summer, getting plenty of much-needed rest and relaxation. But as we’ve learned quite well, it’s rarely all play and no work for our dancers. In fact, we recently caught up with principal dancers Tricia Albertson and Renan Cerdeiro, who, earlier this month, performed at the Florence Dance Festival at the National Museum of Bargello in Italy–the same museum that houses Donatello’s famous Statue of David.

The show, titled Stars of American Ballet, featured Tricia and Renan, along with principal couples from New York City Ballet and Boston Ballet.

Dancers Are Back!

Our dancers have returned to the studios after their 5-week break to start learning a brand new ballet by choreographer Justin Peck. This is Justin’s second ballet for MCB, which will premiere during our final program of the 2014-2015 Season in March. His new work calls for a large cast of dancers and scenery by the popular street artist Shepard Fairey — best known for his work on the Obama Hope poster and also for his large murals adorning local streets and establishments such as the Wynwood Walls and Wynwood Kitchen & Bar.

Dancers’ Picks of the Season!

We have heard from corps de ballet dancer, Michael Breeden, about the ballets that he is looking forward to performing most next season. Now, principal dancer Jeanette Delgado weighs in!

Next season is going to be thrilling! There are some oldies (but goodies) as well as some brand new works! I am looking forward to a lot of the ballets like Richard Alston’s ‘Carmen’ and Justin Peck’s new work, as well as ‘Raymonda Variations and ‘Allegro Brillante’, which are both beautiful Balanchine ballets the company has not performed in a while.
