Audition Information

Admission to the summer program is by audition only. For the 5-week intensive, we strongly urge students to audition in person at one of the following audition classes. Students who are unable to attend due to extenuating circumstances may submit a video or DVD audition. DVD/Video auditions must be postmarked by February 28, 2013, with a $25 check (audition fee). STUDENTS FROM OUTSIDE THE U.S. PLEASE NOTE: DVD audition must be formatted for United States DVD players (region/zone 1 encoded). Click here for DVD/video requirements

All auditioning students must bring a headshot and a full-body photo. It is suggested that girl's photos be a in 1st Arabesque (in practice clothes with pointe shoes, but no skirts). Boys' photos should be on releve in 1st Arabesque (in practice clothes).

All students must also bring a $25 audition fee.

All students must audition with the age group that they will be in on June 1, 2013.

Nobody is allowed to observe the auditions. All students will receive written notification of the results within one week after their audition. 

*No pre-registration is required. Registration will take place during the designated times at each audition location.

DVD/Video Audition Information

Students who are unable to attend an audition class due to extenuating circumstances may submit a DVD/video audition, which must be postmarked by April 30, 2013. STUDENTS FROM OUTSIDE THE U.S. PLEASE NOTE: DVD audition must be formatted for United States DVD players (region/zone 1 encoded).

Please submit a completed registration form, $25 check made out to Miami City Ballet School (audition fee), and a DVD or standard VHS format video with the following:

All girls 13 and over must be on pointe.

1. Two full-body photos for the girls and boys -- one in Arabesque and another in Develope a la
Seconde wearing practice clothes and no skirts.  Please make sure your name, address and phone number are on the photos.

2. Head shot

3. An audition registration form and an audition fee of $25.00

4. A DVD or standard VHS format video with the following:

For Boys and Girls:

I. A short 1-to-3 minute variation, plus:

II. At the barre, facing camera:
1. Plies
2. Tendu & Degage
3. Fondue & Develope (front, side, back)
4. Grand Battements

III. In the center: ALL GIRLS MUST BE ON POINTE
1. Develope devant, a la seconde (facing camera), arabesque (profile)
2. Pirouettes (en dehor, en dedan)
3. 16 jumps in first position
4. Petite allegro

IV. Diagonal across the floor:
1. Grand Jete
2. Pique turns

For Girls on Pointe:
1. Echappe combination with passé
2. Pirouettes
3. Fouettes turns (16 if possible)

For Boys: Same as above without pointe work exercises, but including:
1. Entrechat Six (16 bars)
2. Single or Double Tour en L'air
3. Pirouette combination en dehor & en dedan
4. Grand pirouettes in a la seconde (for advanced boys)
5. Jump combination with echappes, assembles and jetes (with beats, if possible)

Acceptance is granted on a first-come-first-served basis. Once the level reaches full capacity, students will be placed on a waiting list. When accepted, students must register within the required deadlines.

Students 9 - 12-years-old must send in video auditions following the guidelines below or call Jesus Vazquez at 305.929.7000, extension 1801, to schedule an audition.

2-Week Summer Program DVD Audition Requirements

STUDENTS FROM OUTSIDE THE U.S. PLEASE NOTE: DVD audition must be formatted for United States DVD players (region/zone 1 encoded).


I. At the barre, facing sideways to the camera:
1. Grand Plié in 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 5th Positions
2. Four Tendus in 1st and 5th Positions en croix  
3. Degagé from 5th position en croix
4. Adagio with develope to the front, side, and back.
5. Grand Battements en croix


II. In the center facing the camera
1. Tendu in croisé, effacé, a la seconde, devant and derrierre.
2. Pirouette from 5th position
3. Adagio with developé front, side, and back can also include pirouettes from 4th position
4. Sauté in first, second, and changement in 5th position.
5. Assemblé
6. Petit Allegro with jeté and glissade etc.
7. Simple grand allegro from the corner.
8. Piqué turns and chainé turns from the corner.

III If already started Pointe:
1. Relevés on 2 feet in first and second position.
2. Echappé in second and fourth positions.
3. Passé relevés from front to back, and back to front.
4. Piqué turns from the corner.
