Program One: Slaughter On Tenth Avenue

Program One: Slaughter on Tenth Avenue

Balanchine / Rodgers

Oct 18 – Nov 10, 2019

Balanchine meets Broadway in this ground-breaking crime thriller. Richard Rodgers’ tantalizing score sets the scene – a seedy 1930s speakeasy where danger lurks amid the revelry.

Slaughter tells the story of tap dancer who falls for a stripper. She has a heart of gold but she is in with the wrong crowd. As the lovers dance together late at night, her brutal gangster boyfriend is hiding in the shadows waiting for the moment to pull the trigger… will the police nab him in time or will she die in the arms of her one true love?

Full of delightfully unsavory characters, hilarious hijinks and the thrill of new romance – you’ll love this sensual and moving blend of ballet, tap and jazz with a vaudeville heart.

“A show-stopping sensation.” New York Times

Mercuric Tidings

Taylor / Schubert

An iconic work by the late, great Paul Taylor – the dancers whirl like quicksilver, skim in and out of rose-like patterns and defy gravity at breakneck speed. Hailed by The New York Times as a dance that ‘burst seemingly into song’, this is a celebration of freewheeling motion and sublime music that will leave you feeling uplifted.
