To celebrate the culmination of our 21/22 school year, we are excited to announce our annual End-of -Year Student Workshop Performances for Miami City Ballet School Students!

Miami City Ballet School is pleased to welcome our families and friends to support our students as they demonstrate the technique and artistry they have gained throughout the year.

Students from Level I to Level VI perform original works choreographed by MCB School faculty and/or other classical repertoire. The performances will highlight the most advanced level students – our Pre-Professional Division, many of whom will be graduating and starting their professional careers in dance. The program will feature a variety of classical and contemporary works from company repertoire.

Please note: All scheduled performances are subject to change and/or cancellation due to COVID-19.

The 21/22 End-of-Year Student Workshop performances will highlight the following works danced by the Pre-Professional Division, our most advanced level of the school. Each performance will include dancers from our Student Division & Pre-Professional Division Levels.

This ballet is set to Johann Sebastian Bach’s piano studies, which was written, “to help [Bach’s] son in the playing and handling of two-and-three-part pieces” and is a pure classical work of rhythmic and graceful choreography, which was originally choreographed on students premiering in 1994, and since then, has gone on to be part of popular company repertoires.

Western Symphony

Choreography by George Balanchine © The George Balanchine Trust

Music: Traditional American melodies

Composer: Hershy Kay

Premiered in 1954

In a sophisticated take on the American West, this classical work by Balanchine is an exuberant ballet taking place on the rugged old west street populated by cowboys and dance hall girls. “The steps Balanchine uses from the traditional ballet vocabulary allude to the steps, formations, and gestures of American folk dancing…set to a lively and familiar score consisting of classical American folk songs.” All content © 1987-2020 by The George Balanchine Trust
