George Balanchine: The Ballet Maker by Robert Gottlieb
Recommended by Jennifer Lauren, Principal: It’s a great biography about Balanchine written by one of MCB’s Board members and friend Bob Gottlieb.
Firebird by Misty Copeland
Recommended by Amber Dorsky, MCB Publicist: Beautifully illustrated book sends kids a positive message that you can do it if you work hard and believe in yourself. Ages 6-8. Great for aspiring ballerinas.
A Life of Dance and Dreams by Gene Kelly
Recommended by Gradon Hadaway, MCB Associate Director of Membership: An intimate look behind the facade of a legend told by his closest friend and secretary.
Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts
Recommended by Tricia Albertson, MCB Principal: An EPIC book! If you ever wanted to go to India but haven’t had the chance, this book will take you there and on the most incredible, engaging, sometimes heart wrenching journey.
No Way Home by Carlos Acosta
Recommended by Gradon Hadaway, MCB Associate Director of Membership: A dancer’s journey from the streets of Havana to the stages of the world.
The Red Rising series by Pierce Brown
Recommended by Adrienne Carter, Corps de Ballet: These books are so captivating and definitely transport you to another time and place. If you liked The Hunger Games then I would definitely recommend these books.
The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald
Recommended by Ella Titus, Corps de Ballet: This is my favorite classic literary novel, and it never gets old. Plus my cat is named Gatsby! Once you’re done reading you can watch the old and new versions of the movie as a treat.
The Spiderwick Chronicles by Tony DiTerlizzi and Holly Black
Recommended by Luiz Silva, Corps de Ballet: This book is my favorite because it teleports you to a magic world, within reality.
The Harry Potter series – J.K. Rowling
Recommended by Mike Sebesto, MCB Company Manager: It’s my favorite series from my childhood – my grandparents bought me the new books every Christmas. It will definitely keep you busy ready since there are 7 books (and movies!)
