Leigh-Ann Esty in The Big Apple

This week on the MCB Summer 2015 blog series, we caught up with corps de ballet member Leigh-Ann Esty, who is spending some time in NYC this month.

Leigh-Ann writes —

This spring I was asked to participate in a choreographic workshop with some of my coworkers. Ariel Rose, a fellow MCB corps de ballet member, asked me in March if I would be willing to spend a month in New York City working with him. He received a choreography fellowship through the Center for Ballet and the Arts at NYU. Who wouldn’t want to hang out in the Big Apple for a month?!

I graciously accepted his offer. I had never been asked to do something like that before, so this seemed like an awesome opportunity. It just so happens that my twin sister, Sara Esty (former MCB soloist) was making her Broadway debut in An American In Paris this spring. What a great chance for me to see her in this new show AND to work in the city for a month!

I have been here for a week already, and it has been such an awesome experience. Seeing my sister dance and sing on a Broadway stage has been a dream come true. She looks so beautiful, and I am beyond lucky to witness this wonderful time in her life. We even got to celebrate our birthday together this week! As for working in New York City, it has been a thrill. There’s something very special about working in a place where ballet has such a long history. I feel honored to be participating in such a cool project! Other participants include MCB dancers Jennifer Lauren, Nathalia Arja, Jovani Furlan, Patricia Delgado, and Adriana Pierce. We are having the best time together!
