Andrei Chagas was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. There, he began his training at Escola de Dança Alice Arja. As a student there, he participated in the Danza America competition in Cordoba, Argentina in 2006 and 2007, winning first place in the children/youth category.
He first came to Miami City Ballet School for the 2008 summer program. He returned in summer 2009 and was invited to stay for the school year program. Chagas was on full scholarship at MCB School during the 2009 and 2010 summer and school year programs and was the recipient of the Toby Lerner Ansin Scholarship Award in 2010.
In 2010 he joined the Company as a student apprentice, was promoted to company apprentice in January 2011 and to corps de ballet in October 2011.
