Renan Cerdeiro

Girl-Meets-Boy on MCB’s Big Stage

Nathalia Arja and Renan Cerdeiro have been doing this kind of thing since they were kids. Before that, even. Because they’ve really never been apart.

Twenty-two years ago, their mothers were friends and pregnant at the same time. The moms joked about how their children would dance together one day. It served as a prediction.

Now, Nathalia and Renan are among the top dancers at the Miami City Ballet.

MCB Dancers Take Italy

It’s been a couple of weeks since our dancers wrapped up rehearsals with choreographer Justin Peck. Since then, they’ve all been enjoying some additional time off this summer, getting plenty of much-needed rest and relaxation. But as we’ve learned quite well, it’s rarely all play and no work for our dancers. In fact, we recently caught up with principal dancers Tricia Albertson and Renan Cerdeiro, who, earlier this month, performed at the Florence Dance Festival at the National Museum of Bargello in Italy–the same museum that houses Donatello’s famous Statue of David.

The show, titled Stars of American Ballet, featured Tricia and Renan, along with principal couples from New York City Ballet and Boston Ballet.

A Creative Exchange of Music and Dance

After visiting a rehearsal at Miami City Ballet studios, New World Symphony (NWS) fellows began meeting regularly with a group of our dancers to examine the relationship between sound and movement, resulting in a creative exchange between the talented young artists. Corps de ballet dancer Michael Breeden explains how this organic relationship will materialize onstage in the very near future!

MichaelBreeden_HeadshotsMiami City Ballet and New World Symphony have long been the two pillars of Miami’s arts world, attracting acclaim from audiences and critics alike. The dancers and musicians work in the same neighborhood, frequent each other’s performances, and have always expressed how wonderful it would be to work together. After decades as South Florida’s premier arts organizations, it is with great excitement that we prepare for our first full-evening performance together on March 18th — a creative exchange between the dancers of Miami City Ballet and the fellows of New World Symphony.

Our second program of the season is already here and we can’t wait to bring these amazing ballets to the stage! For the first time in company history, we will be performing a work by Nacho Duato with Jardí Tancat — which is unlike anything we have ever performed. We also can’t wait to bring Justin Peck’s Chutes and Ladders to the mainstage after its one-night-only world premiere at New World Symphony last April.  Luckily, principal dancer Renan Cerdeiro will be capturing all of the action on our Instagram feed. Follow him at #RenanMCBPhotos to See the Music! Find out what ballets Renan is most excited to perform below!

I’m really excited to perform Jardí Tancat and Chutes and Ladders because they are new ballets that I have never done and they are so different!

MCB Summer: Jennifer Kronenberg’s BIG APPLE Homecoming

Jennifer Kronenberg

Jennifer Kronenberg

Wrapping up our ‘MCB Summer’ series, principal dancer Jennifer Carlynn Kronenberg writes about her homecoming trip to New York, where her ballet career started in a small, local dance studio in Queens.

What a busy summer this has been for our family! The weeks have really flown by. This summer was extra special —  my first as a mommy — and I have so enjoyed having the extra time to spend with my beautiful baby girl Eva. What a gift! She has grown and changed so much in the last couple of months, and she happily joined us on all of our trips this summer! Carlos and I were so nervous about taking her on her first airplane ride, and worried about how she would handle the crazy schedules of our guest appearances, but she handled everything incredibly well — a little “pro” already!
