It premiered on the main stage in Miami City Ballet’s 2009-10 season. Thirteen dancers in athletic costumes sail, soar and tear through the air bathed in golden, glowing light. Dashing, jogging, coupling and intermixing, the men and women act as individuals and as an individually select race of super beings. Jordan Levin of The Miami Herald calls it Full-tilt relish driven by David Byrne’s churning electro-rock score and The New York Times’ Alastair Macaulay raves, Waves of applause! These Miami dancers keep highlighting some of Ms. Tharp’s most startling demands. The festival will feature a wide range of dance styles and traditions, ranging from contemporary dance and classical ballet to Odissi, tap and hip hop, represented in five programs. Miami City Ballet joins 20 other dance companies appearing in the festival including American Ballet Theatre, New York City Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company and Paul Taylor Dance Company.
