Miami City Ballet brings timeless works to Vancouver

In her curtain speech at Ballet BC’s season-opening program last fall, artistic director Emily Molnar addressed the company’s historic upcoming presentation of Miami City Ballet. Molnar underlined the connection between Ballet BC’s identity as a 21st-century contemporary ballet company, and the game changing work of 20th-century choreographic genius George Balanchine, founder of the New York City Ballet, who changed the art form forever by stripping it down to its essentials.

Miami City Ballet is one of a handful of ballet companies in the United States founded or directed by a former Balanchine dancer, and which as part of its core mandate dances his ballets regularly, thus ensuring that they are part of our shared cultural legacy.
