The Joyce Theater Foundation presented the long-awaited Lincoln Center debut of the internationally lauded Miami City Ballet under the artistic direction of former New York City Ballet principal dancer Lourdes Lopez, from April 13-17 at the David H. Koch Theater. BroadwayWorld has photos from the engagement below!

The highly anticipated engagement, marking the return of former New York City Ballet principal dancer Lourdes Lopez to Lincoln Center now as Miami City Ballet Artistic Director, opened with a gala performance of Serenade, the first ballet George Balanchine created in America; and the exciting and intricate 2012 work Symphonic Dances, by ABT resident choreographer Alexei Ratmansky.

Following the Gala performance, the engagement included two programs celebrating the work of contemporary ballet choreographers with strong connections to Miami City Ballet. Program One featured Symphony in Three Movements, one of Balanchine's most intricate works, set to a propulsive score by Ivan Stravinsky; the serene Sweet Fields by Twyla Tharp, set to 18th century a cappella hymns; and Ratmansky's Symphonic Dances, a ballet commissioned by Miami City Ballet in 2012.

Program Two featured three works. Two of these were by relatively young choreographic stars who have already enjoyed worldwide success: Heatscape, by current NYCB soloist and resident choreographer Justin Peck, who collaborated with visual artist Shepard Fairey for set design, and Viscera, by former Royal Ballet First Artist Liam Scarlett. Also on this program was George Balanchine's masterpiece Bourrée Fantasque.
