MCB School Announces Third Annual Open House

MIAMI BEACH, FL – Miami City Ballet (MCB) School invites prospective students and parents to attend its third annual Open House on Saturday, August 8, 2015. This exciting event will give families the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the School and its programs: students ages 8-18 may audition for the 2015-2016 School Year Program; children ages 3-6 may participate in free sample classes; and building tours will be given throughout the day. Located at the state-of-the-art, 63,000-square-foot facility in the heart of Miami Beach’s Collins Park area, visitors can also meet the student dancers featured on Teen Vogue’s “Strictly Ballet,” a web series that follows the teens’ journeys to becoming professional dancers.

Miami City Ballet, one of the most prestigious ballet companies in the country, is known for its growing reputation as a cradle of creativity for young dancers and choreographers. Offering fun experiences for dancers of all levels, the School is well equipped to accommodate everyone from children to first-timers to seasoned professionals. The youngest children can participate in one of three sample classes that will also be offered this fall: Creative Movement (ages 3-4), Ballet Preparatory I (age 5) and Ballet Preparatory II (age 6).

The School will also hold auditions for prospective students ages 8-18 to join the Pre-Professional Division (ages 14 to 18) or the Student Division (ages 7 to 13). There will even be a separate audition for boys ages 8-10 to join an All Boys’ Dance class. Julliard School graduate and former Broadway performer Herman Payne will lead the audition and class, which will train the young boys in classical ballet, jazz, musical theater dance and hip-hop. Payne, who was also a back-up dance for Michael Jackson, will cover a variety of styles, emphasizing exclusively male techniques for boys in a fun and nurturing environment

The Pre-Professional Division trains students to be versatile, 21st century dancers with the proper technique, artistry and physical stamina required by the most prestigious dance companies in the world today. The Student Division provides comprehensive training with an emphasis on strong classical technique, body alignment and overall strength and stamina. During the school year, MCB School students will have the exclusive opportunity to audition for MCB’s productions of George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker™ and A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

For the first time ever since their Teen Vogue debut, “Strictly Ballet” dancers will be available for an exclusive meet & greet at the Open House from 1:00-3:00pm. Fans of the web series will have the opportunity to pose alongside their role models for a photo opp and get their autographs. Prospective students and dance enthusiasts can check out the series on Teen Vogue’s site:  teenvogue.com/strictlyballet.

School Registration will be happening all day while school uniforms and other dance supplies will be available for purchase – making it a one-stop shop to get students ready for the new school year! In addition, new Miami City Ballet and Miami City Ballet School merchandise will be on sale and visitors will receive a 10% discount on all MCB merchandise purchased during the Open House (does not include uniforms or dancewear).
