Ballet Announces 2012-2013 Season

Tickets go on sale Monday for Miami City Ballet’s 2012-2013 season, which will bring back Symphonic Dances, the work by renowned choreographer Alexei Ratmansky set to Rachmaninoff’s final score that received its world premiere from MCB last week. It will be the focus of Program III in March 2013.Another highlight is a new dance commissioned from Liam Scarlett, whose intense, slashing Viscera made such an impression in its MCB world premiere in January. The young Royal Ballet choreographer’s still untitled work will debut on Program II, which opens Jan. 11.The rest of the season, which opens Oct. 19 at Miami’s Arsht Center and closes April 28 at the West Palm Beach’s Kravis Center, consists of existing repertoire, some of which the company hasn’t danced in years. That includes Balanchine’s glorious, witty ode to classical dance, Apollo; his Duo Concertant, in which a couple interact with a pianist and violinist onstage; and his darkly seductive La Valse.Other highlights should be Jerome Robbins’ elegiac Dances at a Gathering; Paul Taylor’s sexy, riveting Piazzolla Caldera, to music by tango master Astor Piazzolla; and Les Patineurs ( The Skating Party), a nostalgic postcard by the great British choreographer Frederick Ashton. The full schedule and subscriptions ($69-$635) are available at www.miamicityballet.org, 305-929-7010 or 877-929-7010.
