Announcing The 2012-2013 Season

Miami City Ballet 2012-2013 Season of Dance The 2012-2013 season will be highlighted by two important premieres: (1) Alexei Ratmansky, today’s most highly acclaimed classical choreographer, has created SYMPHONIC DANCES to Rachmaninoff’s final great score. It joins our repertory season next February , after a one-time-only preview, in collaboration with The Cleveland Orchestra, at our Gala this Thursday, March 1. (2) Liam Scarlett, The Royal Ballet’s young prodigy of a choreographer, returns to us with another World Premiere ballet (as yet unnamed) following the triumphant World Premiere this year of his blazing VISCERA. Also returning to the repertory, after long absences, are works by the two leading choreographers of the 20th century: George Balanchine and Frederick Ashton. Balanchine’s APOLLO, from 1928, with its ravishing Stravinsky score and Ashton’s LES PATINEURS, also called THE SKATING PARTY, with all the charm and nostalgia it’s been celebrated for since it was first seen in 1937.Rounding out next season will be many of our audience favorites, including Jerome Robbins’ hour-long piano ballet DANCES AT A GATHERING; Balanchine’s dark, turbulent LA VALSE, his Mozartian DIVERTIMENTO No. 15 and his rowdy SLAUGHTER ON TENTH AVENUE, from the hit Rodgers and Hart Broadway musical ON YOUR TOES. And, in a very different mood, Paul Taylor’s tango ballet PIAZZOLLA CALDERA. All subscribers also have the first opportunity to purchase discount tickets to George Balanchine’s THE NUTCRACKER
