2021 ART & DANCE SPRING CAMP

The Bass and Miami City Ballet have teamed up again this year to offer ART & DANCE camp, a virtual, interactive lesson-based camp!
Dance and the visual arts combine when Miami City Ballet School partners with The Bass Museum of Art for a Spring Art and Dance Camp. This is a dynamic five day cultural arts experience for children ages 6 – 9 with two of Miami’s most innovative and beloved institutions.
This program features 2 live, daily video instruction with museum educators and dance instructors for interactive learning, with simple step-by-step directions and packaged art materials for each lesson plan. Campers will enjoy fun, memorable and unique hands-on art experiences, while virtually socializing with their peers and exercising and practicing dance techniques.
11:00 AM – 12:00 PM – Dance with Miami City Ballet School
1:00 PM – 3:00 PM – Create Art with The Bass Museum
All classes will be held virtually through the Zoom platform
*Cost: $250.00 for the week

MONDAY, MARCH 29
HIP HOP (11AM – 12PM)
Students will learn movement based on street dance styles primarily performed to hip hop music which has evolved as part of hip hop culture.
ABSTRACT LANDSCAPE PAINTING (1PM – 3PM)
Explore the visual arts while gaining experience in experimental painting techniques and expressive abstraction.
TUESDAY, MARCH 30
CONTEMPORARY (11AM – 12PM)
Explore this cross-disciplinary style of dance that draws from elements of ballet, modern and jazz.
SURREAL COLLAGE (1PM – 3PM)
Create fresh meanings and narratives by arranging imagery according to your own personal experiences.
WEDNESDAY, MARCH 31
MUSICAL THEATRE (11AM – 12PM)
Adventure into the world of Broadway and Musicals! This class will cover the basic movements of Jazz and play with everyday forms of pedestrian movements (walking, jumping, etc.) Along with an introduction to acting expressions, students will enjoy learning fun musicals such as The Lion King, Oliver!, and The Addams Family.
ART THAT MOVES
Campers will make their own technical drawings, sculpt, paint and decorate their mobile artwork.
THURSDAY APRIL 1
DANCE/BALLET (11AM – 12PM)
Students will be introduced to the exercises and steps of classical ballet with an emphasis on terminology and correct body alignment. They will gain an aesthetic awareness of the art of classical ballet. Later in the class, students will have the opportunity to learn steps and choreography from a world-renowned ballet.
FUTURISTIC POP-UP SCULPTURES (1PM – 3PM)
Learn how to use paper through a variety of projects, from pop-up atmospheres to the ancient art of paper folding.
FRIDAY, APRIL 2
CREATIVE MOVEMENT AND IMPROVISATION (11AM – 12PM)
This class allows students to explore movement through music, channel energy, stimulate imagination and promote creativity. Creative Movement uses body actions to communicate and portray images, ideas and/or feelings. Couple with Improvisation, students will expand their range of movement, body awareness, and creative expression and will explore their relationship to self, others, the environment, and space.
MAKING MANDALAS (1PM – 3PM)
Explore the great outdoors, while gathering material to make art with. Find art in nature, and nature in art!
