Wedding Bells

Two of our outstanding dancers Haiyan Wu (Principal) and Yang Zou (Principal Soloist) recently got married. Haiyan and Yang are both from China, but met and fell in love here at Miami City Ballet. The couple was wed at the home of Artistic Director Edward Villella with many dancers, staff, and friends in attendance. Miami City Ballet School’s Student Showcase will take place May 15-17 at the Ophelia and Juan Js. Roca Center, Lynn and Louis Wolfson II Theatre – Miami City Ballet Studios (2200 Liberty Ave., Miami Beach). Performances are Friday, May 15 at 7pm; Saturday, May 16 at 2pm and 7pm; and Sunday, May 17 at 2pm. Tickets are only $25, and can be purchased at miamicityballet.org or toll-free (877) 929-7010. The advanced students will perform George Balanchine’s Raymonda Variations, Valse Fantaisie (1967), and segments from August Bournonville’s Napoli. For many students these performances will be their grand finale before entering careers as professional dancers at ballet companies around the nation. A Special Thanks to Lora and Fred DrasnerIn honor of Miami City Ballet’s Manhattan Debut at New York City Center, board members Lora and Fred Drasner held an extraordinary evening of festivities. The event included an invitation-only, black-tie pre-performance dinner followed by Miami City Ballet’s opening performance, featuring “Rubies,” Square Dance, and Symphony in C. After the performance, a champagne and dessert reception was held in the mezzanine lobby of City Center. About 150 Miami City Ballet supports attended the event which featured fabulous cuisine and libations sponsored by Ketel One. Edward Villella and Miami City Ballet dancers joined the group on the dance floor to help celebrate the evening. Special thanks to chair Meike Miniaci for all of her hard work. The event included a champagne reception, a silent and live auction, and dancing with the stars of Miami City Ballet.
