Lincoln Center Debut a “Triumph”

Miami City Ballet, presented by The Joyce Theater Foundation, took NYC by storm during the Company’s Lincoln Center debut, April 13 -17. For this spectacular appearance, the Company performed NY premieres of commissioned works, including Justin Peck’s Heatscape.

The Company also performed commissions including Liam Scarlett’s Viscera, and Alexei Ratmansky’s Symphonic Dances. Audiences thrilled to glorious pieces such as Twyla Tharp’s Sweet Fields and George Balanchine’s Symphony in Three Movements, Serenade, and Bourrée Fantasque.

The rave reviews from Alastair Macaulay, The New York Times chief dance critic, are especially noteworthy. He remarked in his first review, “Bold, light, immediate, intensely musical, the dancing of Miami City Ballet flies straight to the heart.” Marina Harss from Dance Tabs commented, “This is dancing that makes one hungry for more,” and Nancy Dalva from the Observer remarked, “What a triumph!” about the Company’s performances.

“This is Miami City Ballet’s first New York season since 2009. What can be done to bring this company to this city more often?” —Alastair Macaulay, The New York Times

Miami City Ballet continues its spring tour in Minneapolis at Northrop Theater, April 27 and in Chicago at Harris Theater, April 29-30.
