MCB School Ensemble & Apprentices
MCB School Ensemble
The MCB School Ensemble is composed of the top level students in the Pre-Professional Division of the School. They perform in MCB’s signature education and outreach program, Ballet for Young People, as well as in other special events and public performances throughout South Florida. Each season’s programming includes a diverse repertoire from Petipa to Balanchine, encompassing both classical and contemporary works. By increasing community access to high-quality artistic programming, they truly serve as ambassadors for Miami City Ballet and Miami City Ballet School.
Each year, select students from MCB School Ensemble are chosen as Apprentices by Artistic Director Lourdes Lopez. These students have the opportunity to take Company class, rehearse and perform with the Company during the season. As Apprentices, they receive shoes for performances, complimentary physical therapy services, and per diem when they tour with the Company. Apprentices are considered for future employment with Miami City Ballet.
Each spring, MCB School Ensemble members, along with other students from the Pre-Professional Division, perform in the Student Choreography Showcase, highlighting their own original choreography. They also perform in the MCB School Ensemble Gala and the annual Student Workshop Performances. Each season, students have the opportunity to perform in a Balanchine ballet, a work from the vast classical repertoire, as well as in original works of choreography by faculty members. Miami City Ballet’s professional wardrobe and production departments oversee all technical aspects of the performances. All performances are open to the paying public and are held at the Lynn & Louis Wolfson, II Theatre at MCB studios.
