Miami City Ballet Returns for Joyce Season

Miami City Ballet will give a season in New York for the first time since 2009. Alessandra Ferri and Herman Cornejo team up for a program of contemporary ballet pieces with the pianist Bruce Levingston. These are some of the highlights of the Joyce Theater’s offerings for its spring and summer season, announced on Tuesday, which also includes the tap ensemble Dorrance Dance, the Stephen Petronio Company, Pennsylvania Ballet and a Cuba Festival.

There’s a strong focus on contemporary ballet during the season, which runs from March through mid-August. Miami City Ballet — which will be presented at the David H. Koch Theater at Lincoln Center April 13-17— will bring two programs with work by George Balanchine and Twyla Tharp, and commissioned pieces by Justin Peck, Alexei Ratmansky and Liam Scarlett. A number of other classical troupes, including the Hong Kong Ballet, Pennsylvania Ballet, American Ballet Theater Studio Company, Ballet BC and the Sarasota Ballet, will perform at the Joyce.

But there is no shortage of other dance forms. Juan Siddi Flamenco Santa Fe, the L.A. Dance Project, Ballet Hispanico, Ballet Preljocaj, Ronald K. Brown/EVIDENCE, and the São Paulo Dance Company are some of the other companies who will perform during the season.
