TRAINING A PROFESSIONAL DANCER
How do you train someone to be a professional ballet dancer? Open Barre will feature Miami City Ballet School students from Levels 1 through Pre-Professional II demonstrating the progression of training from one level to the next, accompanied by an educational conversation between School Director Darleen Callaghan and Principal Faculty member Maria Torija, a renowned dance historian.

MCB School Ensemble will also perform excerpts from Harald Lander’s Études, a one-act ballet that begins with traditional ballet exercises at the barre and ends with spectacular displays by advanced students, and close with George Balanchine’s colorful and exuberant Western Symphony.

MEET JENNIFER KRONENBERG
Miami City Ballet Principal dancer Jennifer Carlynn Kronenberg will be in the lobby during the reception signing her book “So You Want to be a Ballet Dancer,” a great guide for young dancers who want to know the ins and outs of becoming a ballerina.

MCB SCHOOL ENSEMBLE
MCB School Ensemble is composed of the top level students in the Pre-Professional Division of the School. They perform in MCB’s signature education and outreach program, Ballet for Young People, as well as in other special events and public performances throughout South Florida. Each season’s programming includes a diverse repertoire from Petipa to Balanchine, encompassing both classical and contemporary works. The Ensemble was developed in response to MCB’s overall commitment to further expand the organization’s reach into more South Florida communities as well as provide advanced ballet students with professional-level performance opportunities. By increasing community access to high-quality artistic programming, they truly serve as ambassadors for Miami City Ballet and Miami City Ballet School.
