Music takes Center Stage in Hear the Dance

MCB’s second program of the season brings to life George Balanchine’s famous words, “see the music, hear the dance.” The program opened with rave reviews at Adrienne Arsht Center on January 9-11.  Upcoming performances include runs at Kravis Center, January 23-25 and Broward Center, February 6-8.

Ballet meets ballroom in Twyla Tharp’s audience favorite Nine Sinatra Songs, featuring glamorous costuming by Oscar de la Renta and great American Songbook classics by Ol’ Blue Eyes.

The symphonic works of Schubert are imbued with Paul Taylor’s excitement and athleticism in Mercuric Tidings, a work in which Taylor said, “the music and dance are so closely entwined, they are one.”

George Balanchine’s exultant “Miracle ballet,” Symphony in Three Movements, contains some of the most dynamic and complex patterns found in dance set to Stravinsky’s driving, jazz-flavored score.
