Behind the Ballet: George Balanchine’s Slaughter on Tenth Avenue

Our studio seems to be looking more and more like a New York dive, as we continue rehearsals for George Balanchine’s Slaughter on Tenth Avenue.  For a sneak peek at this wildly entertaining work and to see how we are getting along with our tap dancing skills, check out this new VIDEO!

Liturgy with Patricia and Yann

Principal dancers Patricia Delgado and Yann Trividic began their partnership not too long ago yet have amazing chemistry! This season the duo had the opportunity to learn and perform Christopher Wheeldon’s  Liturgy. Watch as Patricia and Yann chat about how they prepared for the piece, and how they feel about this sensual and haunting pas de deux.

Brushing up on our French

With the Paris tour just a hop, skip, and a jump away, everyone is doing all they can to prepare — including brushing up on their French!

MCB will perform in Paris during the popular dance festival Les Etés de la Danse at Théâtre du Châtelet July 6-23, 2011.

A Special Relationship

Dancers have often expressed how amazing it is to have live music during performances again! There’s a special relationship that develops between the dancers and the orchestra that makes a world of difference, not only for the performers but for the audience as well. It changes everything. Some of the dancers shared with us some tidbits on this special relationship.

This was all made possible by a grant from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation and the Knight Arts Challenge. The 2011 challenge is already underway. You too can see your ideas come to life. The Knight Arts Challenge is accepting applications from organizations or individuals! Click here to apply. Hurry, the deadline is tomorrow, March 2.

Following Promethean Fire – Almost Time

The Poet returns to the Ballroom

Yann Trividic is back to dance the principal role of The Poet in Edward Villella’s The Neighborhood Ballroom. We caught up with the former principal dancer earlier in the season to see how it felt to be back. But now it’s almost show time! In a couple days, Yann will take the stage to reprise the role that was created on him. We sat down with Yann to talk about taking the stage again.

Don’t miss your chance to see Yann dance this weekend (February 5-7) at Adrienne Arsht Center, at Broward Center on February 12-14, and at Kravis Center on February 19-21.

Yann Trividic Returns to MCB

Yann Trividic, former MCB Principal Dancer, has returned to the Company as a guest artist. Yann joined Miami City Ballet as a Soloist in 2000 and was promoted to Principal in 2003. Since his departure from Miami, Yann has been residing in his native France and studied osteopathic medicine.  He is back to dance a leading role (The Poet) in Edward Villella’s The Neighborhood Ballroom, which is Program III of the 2009-2010 Season.

We caught up with Yann to talk about his return to MCB.
